A team dedicated to understanding ideas that shape our world—not to win arguments, but to foster genuine understanding.
Mierscamia began in 2012 as a reading group. Three academics—one libertarian, one progressive, one traditionalist conservative—discovered something unusual: they could disagree profoundly while still respecting each other's intellectual foundations.
That experience was rare enough to be transformative. They realized that most ideological conflicts stem not from genuine disagreement but from failure to understand what the other side actually believes and why.
What started as informal gatherings evolved into structured workshops. Corporate clients discovered that understanding ideological foundations helped them navigate contentious public issues. Nonprofit leaders found that genuine comprehension of opposing viewpoints made their advocacy more effective, not less.
Today, Mierscamia operates across Canada, helping organizations and individuals develop what we call ideological fluency: the capacity to understand multiple worldviews from the inside, without losing your own convictions.
We interpret opposing viewpoints in their strongest form, not their weakest. Straw-manning has no place in genuine understanding.
Every intellectual tradition we study contains insights that others miss. We approach each with genuine curiosity, not dismissal.
Understanding ideologies isn't just academic. It's essential for effective leadership, advocacy, journalism, and civic engagement.
We ground our work in primary sources and serious scholarship, not popular caricatures or partisan media.
Disagreement, done well, sharpens thinking and reveals blind spots. We model and teach this skill.
Our team includes people across the political spectrum. We practice internally what we teach externally.

Most political consulting firms have an angle. They help you win against opponents. We help you understand them—which, paradoxically, often makes your own position stronger.
We don't do partisan advocacy. We don't craft talking points designed to defeat the other side. Instead, we build capacity for genuine engagement across difference.
Our clients span the political spectrum. We've worked with conservative think tanks seeking to understand progressive movements, progressive nonprofits wanting to reach across the aisle, and corporations navigating politically charged public issues.
The common thread: they all wanted to move beyond caricature to comprehension.
